I purchased a used copy of Muse Blackholes and Revelations off of eBay. It as pretty inexpensive. Got it USPS and it sounded awful. Turns out it had been played to death. Be wary of purchasing second hand because you may not be able to see the vinyl clearly enough to see it’s dead.

I always try to get black variants. Easier to clean, easier to see the grooves, and less surface noise. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that all my coloured vinyl is noisier than my black vinyl. I actually tested this just a few weeks ago. Pure carbon is much more stable than the compounds they use to colour the record. Results were conclusive. Good video BTW

Starting out I would go with the turntable you mentioned and add a used 1990s Amplifier and speakers combination (Sherwood/Pioneer/Kenwood etc) which are relatively cheap, reliable and great sounding.

The Pros for me are the joy my collection brings me when at the end of a long day I can sit down with a coffee and put an album on my turntable and just immerse myself in some great music. I'm an old guy who remembers buying records back in the middle ages of the 1970's and even now I love the sound the needle makes on first hitting those grooves, and the surface noise. It's all part of the experience for me. A handy tip for newbies is to go and trawl through the record racks at your local charity shop, and the bargain bins in your record store, that's how I found a mono pressing of Sgt Pepper for £10 in my local charity shop. The cover was a bit battered and the inserts were missing but the record was in ex condition. You have to have a good look at the vinyl before you buy, but it's worth it in the long run and it can boost your collection quite quickly. Im 13, and i just started my collection. Currently i have nevermind - nirvana, illmatic - nas, and grace - jeff buckley. I really really like them but im worried how to keep them. My daddy is a collecter but he lives a few hours away so i cant bring them there..

I've been collecting records my whole life. I guess my advice is to just find a good record store that buys and sells used records----then go there frequently, like: Weekly. Go digging thru those used bins....if you only buy new vinyl, you'll go broke. Used records is the only way to go.

My introduction to The Lord of the Rings was back in the early 1970's. I've since written my own book, inspired by it, and working on a second. It changed my life. I have an actual autograph of Tolkien on my wall, mounted beneath his photo, that I pass every single day on my way out of my bedroom, and it still inspires me. May you be inspired by his incredible story and find a way to express that inspiration that brings you joy.

This is the video I needed when I was 15 and starting out in 2019 😂 First bit of advice I got was any CD's you had that you really loved transfer it over to a vinyl copy of the album. That's led to nearly 200 albums in my collection

I just got into manga as well. First manga I got was the Akira box set. I also picked up Gunnm and Nausicaä. Uzumaki is on the way, and I'm waiting for deluxe editions 11 12 and 13 to get here before I dive all the way in.

To add to records not liking heat: make sure to store your records out of immediate sunlight and away from radiators, my dads got a few records that would be a lot more valuable if they werent warped beyond a playable state.

Fact: weather you have a color vinyl or not does NOT affect the sound.. sick of people believing that myth. what will affect the vinyl quality are things such as picture discs

Junji Ito's safe horror is so overrated. It's like furry horror to me. A fleck of dirt on the black wings of Kazuo Umezz… If anybody wants to try more complex and interesting manga, try old masters like Yoshiharu Tsuge, Yoshihiro Tatsumi, Murasaki Yamada and Kuniko Tsurita, or current masters like Inio Asano, Taiyo Matsumoto or Shuzo Oshimi. All of them available in English.

I literally jumped when you said Richard Buckner. He is my favorite artist of all time and I am much different than you as a southern 57 year old man but we are connected by Richard. Please listen to all of his albums especially the Hill. So effing awesome. I have no idea how you heard him because he's definitely a small artist but he's incomparable.

I organise alphabetical too but by last name! Most record stores are set up that way I think I find them easier to navigate when my collection is organised the same 😊

Good for you. In my case it's quite chalenging because I collect undocumented / zero google results records whose not aveilable on discogs or any other databases.

Step 1: Buy vinyl you like. Step 2: Repeat step 1 until step 3 occurs. Step 3: Go broke. Collection!

Hi! Speaking from another hot country, you may be harming your vinyl with those plastic covers. They evaporate over time, even in colder climates, passes through the paper covers and get to the vinyl. And it’s irreparable. 😢
